UNH Women's Volleyball Takes Out Rival Hofstra in First Conference Match

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball won its first conference match of the season with a 3-2 victory over conference rival Hofstra University on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Fitness Center. The game scores were 13-15, 6-15, 15-12, 15-7, 15-13.

With the win, the Wildcats improve their record to 11-8 overall (1-0 America East), while Hofstra drops to 11-5 and 0-1 in America East. UNH is currently in the midst of a three match win streak which started on Sept. 29 vs. Dartmouth.

The 'Cats received strong performances from senior co-captains Bethany Cole (Canterbury, N.H.) and Leisha Campbell (Oswego, N.Y.) who recorded 20 and 16 kills respectively. Cole also added seven digs, four total blocks and hit for .214 clip. Juniors Kim Mirts-Poen (Essex, Iowa) and Jillian Ross (Naperville, Ill.) tallied 14 and 13 kills each.

Mirts-Poen finished with a match-high 29 digs, while classmate Ross notched 13 digs and two service aces.

UNH returns to conference action tomorrow afternoon, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. against Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.
