DURHAM, N.H. -The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team extended its AMERICA EAST match winning streak to 19 with a 15-9, 15-8, 15-2 victory against the University of Delaware before a school-record crowd of 454 at Lundholm Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
UNH (14-8 overall, 4-0 AE) was led offensively by Jillian Ross (Naperville, Ill.), who recorded a match-high 15 kills, Katie Jentes (Madbury, N.H.; 12 kills) and Bethany Cole (Canterbury, N.H.; 10 kills). Stacy Barnett (Crystal Lake, Ill.) quarterbacked the 'Cats to an impressive .333 hitting percentage with 43 assists.
Barnett also played an integral part on defense by tying teammate Leisha Campbell (Oswego, N.Y.) with a match-best 10 digs. Jennifer Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) was an imposing force on the frontline - UNH had 13 team blocks compared to Delaware's two - with eight total blocks, two of which were solo.
The Fightin' Blue Hens (7-13, 2-2) played a strong first game with a .243 hitting percentage but followed that with .100 and .038 percentages in the second and third games, respectively, to finish at .136. UD was led by Jennifer Wanner (nine kills), Cameo Neeman (eight) and Margaret Lapinski (six; team-best six digs). Sadie Bjornstad recorded 27 assists.
UNH returns to action Wednesday Oct. 20 against University of Maine in Orono at 1p.m. The 'Cats next home match is Oct. 24 vs. Northeastern at 1p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.
