DURHAM, N.H. - Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.), a freshman outside hitter on the University of New Hampshire volleyball team, was named Rookie of the Week by America East on Monday.
She helped the Wildcats to a 4-0 week by recording 29 kills in nine games for a 2.55 kills per game average. She also contributed to the attack with eight aces and two assists. Defensively, Coler produced 17 digs (1.89 per game) and four blocks.
Coler, who ranks second in America East in hitting percentage with a .291 accuracy, had an outstanding all-around match to lead UNH to a straight-game (15-5, 15-13, 15-9) win against Delaware on Friday. She recorded a match-high four service aces and was second on the team with 12 kills. She also contributed two assists and two blocks. Coler capped the weekend with another solid all-around effort by recording six kills, three service aces, nine digs and two blocks in 3-1 win against Towson University.
Coler is fifth on the team in kills with 488, is tied for the team lead in service aces with 27 and is fourth in blocks with 51.
UNH (19-9 overall, 10-2 America East) team returns to action Nov. 4 at Northeastern University. Match time is 1 p.m.
