DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was named America East Player of the Week on Monday after taking all-tournament honors at the UMass Invitational this past weekend.
In four matches this past week, Coler posted 73 kills, 44 digs, seven blocks and nine service aces with a .244 hitting percentage. Coler's best match of the week came against Dartmouth College Sept. 8, when she had a career-high 25 kills, 12 digs and two service aces in UNH's 3-1 victory. Against Buffalo Sept. 7, Coler produced 20 kills and 14 digs in the Wildcats' 3-2 win.
Coler has logged double digit kills in all seven matches this season. Twice, Coler has come up one dig short of posting a double-double in every match.
With an average of 17 kills per a match so far, Coler is on a early pace to break UNH's single season mark for kills. Beth Cole ('99) currently holds the record with 485. Last season, UNH and Coler played 34 matches. If Coler plays the same number of matches and stays on the same pace, last season's America East Rookie of the Year would shatter the record with 578 kills.
The Wildcats (4-3) and Coler play host to intrastate rival Dartmouth College (1-2) on Tuesday at Lundholm Gymnasium (7 p.m.)
