DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire volleyball swept away the University of Hartford in America East action Sunday at Lundholm Gymnasium, 3-0.
Sophomore Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) led the way for the Wildcats with 15 kills and eight digs. The game scores of the match went 30-24, 30-23 and 30-23.
UNH improves to 16-8 overall and 9-3 in America East. Hartford falls to 6-16 and 2-10 AE.
The most contested match of the afternoon was the second game in which the Hawks built a 7-4 lead to start the game. UNH responded with a 14-5 run though, and ultimately took over the rest of the match by finishing Hartford off, 30-23 and 30-23.
Freshman Bonnie Wilson (Moraga, Calif.) had 11 kills and 15 digs for the 'Cats, while junior Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.) was also a solid contributor with 10 kills and three blocks.
Stephanie Volckers led Hartford with 16 kills and 11 digs. Kelly McEathron had 13 kills and 10 digs.
Freshman Kerin Mackanin (Bartlett, Ill.) had another solid afternoon for UNH with 39 assists and seven digs. Junior Sasha Scott (N. Branford, Conn.) finished with double figure digs with 10.
UNH returns to action Nov. 10 when it hosts Northeastern University for "Pack the Arena Day". During last season's "Pack the Arena Day", the Wildcats hosted Hofsra University and played in front of a school and America East conference record 1,949 fans at Lundholm Gym. Early projections for this season appear to indicate upwards of 2,500 fans will attend the Nov. 10 match.
