STORRS, Conn. - The University of New Hampshire volleyball team competed in its second tournament of the spring season and defeated host University of Connecticut in the championship game, 2-1, on Saturday, April 19th in Storrs, Conn. The game scores were 30-32, 30-24, 15-11.
In the preliminary round, UNH defeated Harvard and Northeastern, 2-1 and lost to Connecticut, 1-2.
Junior outside hitter Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.), the 2002 America East Player of the Year, registered a team-high 24 kills and a .265 hitting percentage in the tournament, while adding 34 digs. Freshmen Amy Dai (Calgary, Alb.) and Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) posted 18 kills apiece, while middle hitter Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H.) notched 17 kills. Dai also chipped in with 42 digs in four tournament matches.
Junior captain Sasha Scott (North Branford, Conn.), the 2002 America East Defensive Specialist of the Year, led the team with 93 digs.
Quarterbacking the 'Cats offense were junior setters Anne Davis (Groveland, Ill.) and Erin Ludwig (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), who tallied 62 and 50 assists respectively.
The Wildcat volleyball team returns to action Saturday, April 26th in its home tournament at Lundholm Gymnasium. Matches begin at 9:30 am with UNH facing Harvard, and at 3:30 the current Wildcats face the UNH alumni.
