DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, April 26 in the Oak Room of the Huddleston dining hall. Juniors Anne Davis (Groveland, Ill.) and Sasha Scott (North Branford, Conn.) were named co-captains for the 2003 season, while senior outside hitter Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.) was recognized as the Most Valuable Player for the 2002 season.

Davis led the Wildcats to a 13-1 record in the second half of the season as the starting setter, tallying 50 kills and a team-high 790 assists on the year. Scott, the America East Defensive Specialist of the Year, set a new school record with 492 digs in 2002.

Knight, the MVP of the America East Tournament, finished second on the 'Cats squad in kills with 434 and also chipped in with 286 digs and 86 total blocks. Knight leaves UNH as the lone senior from the 2002 squad, while recording 966 kills in her four seasons as a Wildcat.

Freshman middle hitter Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H.) received the Ed Jentes Coaches Award, which goes to the Wildcat who makes the extra commitment and effort to the program. Harrington, a highly touted recruit out of Salem High School, was named to the America East All-Rookie Team. Harrington registered 112 kills and 74 blocks in her freshman campaign and ranked second in the conference at 1.16 blocks per game.

Junior middle hitter Lyndsey Stults (Fort Wayne, Ind) earned the Judy Ray Academic Excellence Award for the second straight season. The award goes to the UNH player who excels in the classroom with the highest GPA. Juniors Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) and Chelsea Hammer (Eden Prairie, Minn.), along with Katie Steffens (Monroe, Conn.), Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.), Knight and Stults were named to the America East All-Academic Team for their strong performance in the classroom, earning a 3.0 GPA or higher in the fall semester.

Coler, the America East Player of the Year, was the third Wildcat inducted into the programs 1,000 kill club joining former 'Cats Jillian Ross and Jen Walker. Coler registered a team-high 564 kills on the year which marked a new single-season UNH record. She also ranked second in the conference with 4.41 kills per game and posted 38 kills on October 8, 2002 vs. Northeastern which shattered the single-match school record previously held by Beth Cole (30).

Ron and Linda Knight, parents of Lauren, were presented with the Karl VanAsselt Assist Award going to the persons who assist UNH volleyball in achieving the programs goals.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 23-11 record and a 11-1 record in America East play. UNH made its second NCAA tournament appearance and won its second America East conference championship in school history in 2002.
