FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team went 1-1 in its final two matches of the Fairfield Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7. In the first match, the 'Cats defeated host Fairfield, 3-2 and in the late match the Wildcats fell to Seton Hall, 0-3. The game scores were (Fairfield) 22-30, 30-19, 30-27, 30-32, 15-7 and (Seton Hall) 27-30, 20-30, 24-30.
In the Fairfield match, the 'Cats received notable performances from junior outside hitter Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) and senior outside hitter Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.). Coler posted a season-high 23 kills, hit for a .327 hitting percentage and notched seven digs, while Knight registered 15 kills, six digs and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Natasha Otte (Plymouth, N.H.) continued her strong play with a career-high 12 kills and she also chipped in with six blocks. Junior co-captain Sasha Scott (North Branford, Conn.) posted a team-high 15 digs in a solid defensive match and freshman middle hitter Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) tallied a career-high 11 kills. Quarterbacking the 'Cats offense was junior setter Erin Ludwig (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), who recorded match-high 47 assists and added seven kills, seven digs and three blocks.
In the Seton Hall match, UNH was paced by Coler, who posted a team-high 15 kills and nine digs. Knight recorded 10 kills and classmate Scott had another outstanding game on defense with 14 digs. Ludwig posted 30 assists as the starting setter, while freshman setter Anne Davis (Groveland, Ill.) saw limited action and added 11 assists.
The UNH volleyball team returns to action on Friday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Temple Tournament. The next Wildcat home match is Sept. 20, when they will host a tournament with North Carolina State, Kent State and Montana State. The Wildcats first match is at 7 p.m. when they face Montana State.
