UNH VOLLEYBALL SPLITS AT TEMPLE TOURNAMENT

PHILADELPHIA-- The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team split two matches at the Temple Tournament on Friday, Sept. 13 at McGonigle Hall. In the first match of the day, the 'Cats defeated West Virginia University, 3-0, and in the late match, UNH fell to Rutgers University, 1-3. The game scores in the WVU match were 30-27, 30-20, 30-28 and in the Rutgers match, 30-23, 28-30, 27-30, 18-30.

With the win and loss yesterday, the Wildcats' record now stands at 3-6 on the year through nine matches.

In the Rutgers match, junior outside hitter Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) led the way for the UNH offense with 17 kills and nine digs. Senior co-captain Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.) notched 15 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and hit for a .400 hitting percentage. Freshman middle hitter Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H.) tied a career high with nine kills and hit for a .318 hitting percentage. Junior co-captain Sasha Scott (North Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Jen Williams (Mountain View, Calif.) each turned in solid defensive performances with 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Junior setter Erin Ludwig (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) quarterbacked the 'Cat attack with 39 assists and 12 digs.

In the West Virginia match, Coler and Knight had 11 kills apiece, while Harrington posted a career-high nine kills in the victory. Knight also hit for a .440 hitting percentage and added seven digs. Ludwig registered 36 assists as the starting setter and Scott totaled 12 digs as she continued her solid play on defense.

The Wildcat volleyball team returns to action Sept. 14 with a match against host Temple University at 10 a.m. in its final match of the tournament. UNH's next home game is Sept. 20 vs. Montana State at Lundholm Gym. Match time is 7 p.m.
