DURHAM, N.H. -The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team defeated the University of Hartford, 3-0, on Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The game scores were 30-24, 30-20, 31-29.
UNH upped its season record to 12-10 overall and to 3-1 in conference play, while Hartford dropped to 8-12 and 0-4 in America East.
The Wildcats rallied back in the third game down, 19-11, to outscore Hartford, 20-10, down the stretch on the strong serving of junior middle hitter Natasha Otte (Plymouth, N.H.) and sophomore outside hitter Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.). UNH tallied 18 kills in the first and third games, while they tallied 16 kills in the second game with a .300 hitting percentage.
Walker led the Wildcats with a match-high 12 kills and six service aces. Walker also chipped in six digs, while senior outside hitter Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) posted 11 kills and a team-high 10 digs. Otte poured in 10 kills and senior co-captain Anne Davis (Groveland, Ill.) registered a match-high 40 assists in the win.
Sophomore middle hitter Karen Harington (Windham, N.H.) tallied eight kills and a team-high .538 hitting percentage.
Stephanie Volckers and Kristi Motil notched seven and six digs respectively for Hartford. Kelly McEathron finished the match with 12 digs and Brianne Paulson posted 22 assists in the loss for the Hawks.
The Wildcat volleyball team returns to action Saturday, Oct. 18 vs. Stony Brook. Match time for "Pack the Arena Day" is 7 p.m. at Lundholm Gym.
