KINGSTON, R.I.-- The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team was
defeated by host Rhode Island, 3-1 on Friday night at Keaney Gymnasium in their
second match on the opening day of the Rhode Island Invitational. The game
scores were 18-30, 16-30, 34-32 and 25-30.
With the two losses, UNH drops to 3-6 on the year.
In the Rhode Island match, UNH sophomore outside hitter Sarah Rehn (Oceanside,
Calif.) led the 'Cat attack with a team-high 13 kills and 15 digs on the night.
Freshman outside hitter Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alb.) chipped in with seven
kills and nine digs and junior outside hitter Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.)
notched eight kills and seven digs. Sophomore setter Katie Weidner
(Warrenville, Ill.) recorded 37 assists and eight digs quarterbacking the 'Cat
attack. Senior libero Jen Williams (Mountain View, Calif.) posted 10 digs in
the loss with another double-digit dig performance.
In UNH's first match of the day, the 'Cats were defeated by Harvard, 3-1. The
game scores were 23-30, 22-30, 30-20 and 20-30.
The 'Cat attack was led by Walker, who posted a match-high 16 kills, while
Blouin recorded nine kills, which was second best on the Wildcat' roster, to go
along with nine digs and a .350 hitting percentage. Williams turned in another
strong performance with 11 digs, while Weidner posted 49 helpers assisting
UNH's offense. Weidner also chipped in with seven digs and Williams tallied a
career-high seven service aces in the loss to the Crimson.
UNH volleyball continues play in the final day of the Rhode Island Invitational
on Saturday, Sept. 18 against Rutgers University at 11 a.m. to conclude the
tournament.
