FAIRFIELD, CONN.-- The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team was defeated by host Fairfield University, 3-1 on Friday night at Alumni Hall in the opening match for the Wildcats of the Fairfield Invitational. The game scores were 30-27, 28-30, 28-30 and 38-40.
The Wildcats took the first game and had their best match statistically with 18 kills as a team and a match-high .235 hitting percentage in the opening session.
Junior co-captain Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y) notched a match-high 22 kills, one short of her career-high, and 17 digs to pace UNH's offense in the loss. Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Rehn (Oceanside, Calif.) registered 14 kills, which was second best on the 'Cats' roster and on defense she finished the match with a team-high 19 digs.
Junior middle hitter Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H) and senior co-captain Natasha Otte (Plymouth, N.H.) recorded eight kills apiece. Otte added eight blocks and Harrington tallied four blocks and hit at a .316 clip. Sophomore setter Katie Weidner (Warrenville, Ill.) accumulated 43 assists running the Wildcat offense to go along with eight digs.
Senior libero Jen Williams (Mountain View, Calif.) also matched Rehn's fine performance on defense with 19 digs. Freshman outside hitter Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alb.) had nine kills in the loss to the Stags.
The Wildcat volleyball team (3-8 overall) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 25th in the final day of the Fairfield Invitational with a 1 p.m. against Temple University and a 5 p.m. match vs. St. Louis.
