UNH volleyball hosts annual "Meet the Team"

DURHAM, N.H.-- Jill Hirschinger, the University of New Hampshire head volleyball coach, announced on Tuesday that the UNH women's volleyball team will host the fifth annual "Meet the Team" at Lundholm Gymnasium on Sunday, August 7th at 3:15 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, marks the end of the UNH high school team volleyball camp that includes 30 teams and over 300 players from the Granite State and New England. The blue/white intersquad scrimmage will consist of one game to 30 points in rally scoring format.

UNH begins official practice on Tuesday, August 9th at 9 a.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.

The Wildcats will be captained in 2005 by senior middle hitter Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) who led the team in kills last season and was an America East All-Conference selection. UNH features three players from New Hampshire, including senior middle hitter Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H.) and freshman outside hitter Caitlin Dowd (Portsmouth, N.H.) who was the 2004 Class L Player of the Year leading Portsmouth High School to a state championship last season.

The Wildcats open the season Friday, August 26th vs. San Francisco at the Delaware Tournament in Newark. Match time is 4:30 p.m. UNH will also face 2004 defending national champion Stanford University on Tuesday, Sept. 6th on "Pack the Arena Night" at Lundholm Gymnasium.
