MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team was defeated by the University of Iowa and host Marquette University in the final day of play at Marquette Volleyball Challenge at the Al McGuire Center on Saturday.
With the losses, UNH falls to 0-6 on the season, while Marquette upped its mark to 5-1. The 'Cats placed fourth in the tournament with a 0-3 mark on the weekend in Milwaukee
In the late match, the Wildcats could not solve the Golden Eagles, losing in four games, 3-1. The game scores were 21-30, 30-32, 30-28 and 29-31. Senior captain Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) paced the 'Cat attack with a team-high 16 kills and nine digs and was the lone Wildcat selected to the Marquette All-Tournament Team for her efforts on the weekend. Junior Sarah Rehn (Oceanside, Calif.) amassed 41 assists and eight digs in the loss for the Wildcats. Sophomore outside hitter Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta) registered 13 kills and 15 digs in the nightcap. Blouin in three matches this weekend amassed 50 kills. Freshman libero Callie Webster (Mercer Island, Wash.) tallied a career-high 15 digs in the losing cause.
In the early match of the day, UNH lost to Iowa, 3-0, the game scores were 24-30, 27-30 and 22-30. Blouin once again led the way for the 'Cats with a match-high 18 kills and 11 digs.
Walker posted 12 kills and four blocks to go along with an impressive .375 hitting percentage. Rehn notched 35 helpers and nine digs guiding the Wildcat offensive attack.
Sophomore outside hitter Jeanne Czipri (Aurora, Ill.) and senior outside hitter Katie Steffens (Monroe, Conn.) each tallied seven digs on the defensive side.
The Wildcats next match officially opens their 2005 home schedule at Lundholm Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m.) against the 2004 defending national champions Stanford University on the fifth annual "Pack the Arena Night" as the Wildcats try to break their attendance record of 1,949 fans set on Oct. 22, 2000 vs. Hofstra.
