Wildcat volleyball splits at UConn Tournament

Storrs, Conn.-- The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season defeating Brown University, 3-0 in the first day of the UConn Tournament at Gampel Pavilion on Friday. The game scores were 31-29, 30-23 and 30-27.

In the late match, UNH was downed by host Connecticut, 3-0. The game scores were 26-30, 21-30, 26-30.

In the match vs. the Huskies, junior Sarah Rehn (Oceanside, Calif.) paced the Wildcat attack with a season-high 12 kills and nine digs, while freshman setter Lucia Bridova (Bratislava, Slovakia) amassed 26 helpers and seven digs in the nightcap. Freshman libero Callie Webster (Mercer Island, Wash.) had another solid match with a match-high 15 digs. Senior captain Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) finished the match with seven kills and needs only one kill to become the fourth member of UNH's 1,000 dig club. Walker has 999 kills in three plus seasons of play at UNH.

In the Brown match the 'Cats were led statistically by Walker who posted a match-high 13 kills. Rehn started at outside hitter for the first time this season posting eight kills and six digs, after starting the first seven matches at setter. Senior Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H.) and freshman outside hitter Cailtin Dowd (Portsmouth, N.H.) also notched eight kills apiece.

Bridova got her first start of the season quarterbacking the Wildcat attack registering a career-high 39 assists in the win. Webster tallied 12 digs on defensive side for the 'Cats.

With the split on Friday, UNH owns a 1-8 record on the season.

The Wildcat volleyball team concludes play at the UConn Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10 with a 12 p.m. match against Seton Hall.
