SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire women’s volleyball team lost to host Syracuse University, 3-1 in the final match of the tournament on Saturday night at Manley Field House. The game scores were 19-30, 30-26, 21-30 and 28-30.

    The Wildcats were led offensively in the nightcap by senior outside hitter Sarah Rehn (Oceanside, Calif.) who totaled a career-high and match-high 22 kills, while adding 13 digs and a team best .264 hitting percentage in the losing effort for UNH.
    Sophomore captain Toni Barnas (Cary, Ill.) also had a strong showing on offense with 12 kills and eights digs against Syracuse. Freshman Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) notched 33 assists and eight digs running the ‘Cats offense, while classmate Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) managed a team-high 14 digs steadying the ‘Cats on defense.
    In the early match, the Wildcats also lost to Siena, 3-1. The game scores were 26-30, 27-30, 30-28 and 20-30. Rehn managed 18 kills and eight digs vs. Siena, while junior outside hitter Jeanne Czipri (Aurora, Ill.) registered a career-high 13 kills. Uitti finished the match with 40 assists and 12 digs, while Lahti continued her strong play defensively with 13 digs. With the two losses, the ‘Cats drop to 1-5 on the season, while the Orange improve to 3-5 on the season.
    The ‘Cats return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 5 with an exhibition match vs. UMass-Lowell. Match time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 7 p.m.
