Elliott, a 6-1 middle blocker, played under coach Bill Pribac at St. John’s College High School and is a member of the Metro American Volleyball Club (MAVBC). Last season, Elliott recorded 411 digs, 244 kills, 86 blocks and 59 service aces in her senior year. She totaled 301 kills, 139 blocks and 73 aces in 05-06. In 2006, Elliott was named to the Washington Catholic Athletic All-Conference Team (WCAC) for her efforts during her junior year and was on the All-Tournament Team in 2007. She was named Most Valuable Player of the 16 Travel MAVBC in 2006.
“Justine brings a wealth of athleticism with a vertical jump of over 10 feet. She has a lot of potential and we are excited to work with her and further develop her skills,” said Coach Hirschinger. “Her club team is ranked first in their region. She is a great student from a prestigious high school and is in the Top 15% of her class.”
Huxtable, a 5-6 defensive specialist, attends St. Charles North High School and played for coach Lindsey Trudell. She also plays for Club Fusion Volleyball. Huxtable was a All-Academic All-Conference honoree in 2006 and 2007, while she was an All-State Honorable Mention selection in those same seasons. She was a member of several playoff teams including her 17 and under Junior Olympic team’s second place finish in the open division at Nationals in 2005. Also, in 2005 and 2006 they were champions of a National Qualifier. Her high school team went to the sweet sixteen in 2005 and 2006 in the State of Illinois.
“Jayde has the ability to make her team better and is capable of being a focal point of our team’s defense,” said Hirschinger. “Jayde is a vocal and dynamic player, who brings a lot of experience from playing on high levels in high school and with her club program. She is also in the Top 5th of her class in academic standing. We look forward to adding her to our 2007 team.”
Yegge, a 5-10 outside hitter, plays at Redlands High School for coach Luis Chanure and played for three different clubs teams including Rancho Valley for three years and Tiger and Club West for one season apiece. She was a member of the Redlands High team that made the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs in 2005 and 2006, while they went on to win the Citrus Belt League title in 2006. Yegge posted 78 kills and 83 digs in her senior year, which included a 1.77 kill per game total and a 1.84 dig per game average. She registered a season-high 10 kills, 11 digs and five blocks in the season opener vs. Redlands East Valley on Sept. 19.
“Laura will be a strong addition to our program as a solid all-around player with a high skill level and a 31-inch vertical jump,” said Hirschinger. “Her club team is very competitive in Southern California and she will bring consistency and athleticism to the Wildcat lineup. Laura is also a very strong student, who is in the Top 5% of her class at Redlands.”
The Wildcat volleyball team opens their 2007 season with Colgate University on Friday, August 24th at the Colgate Tournament in Hamilton, N.Y. UNH opens its home schedule on Friday, Sept. 14th with Holy Cross at the Wildcat Invitational at Lundholm Gymnasium (7 p.m.)
