– Seniors Toni Barnas (Cary, Ill.), Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta) and Jessica Compton (Woodridge, Ill.) recorded 17, 15 and 13 kills, respectively, to lift the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-1 win over in-state foe Dartmouth College on Tuesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The game scores were 27-30, 30-27, 30-20 and 30-21. The Wildcats, who have now won five straight, conclude non-conference play 11-4 overall, while the Big Green falls to 8-3 overall.

UNH is off to its best start since the 1984 season, when the Wildcats opened the season with a matching 11-4 mark.

The Big Green took a back-and-forth Game 1, 30-27, by hitting at a .267 clip with 11 kills. The Wildcats answered in Game 2 capture a 30-27 win in which UNH hit at a .244 mark with 16 kills. Games three and four were all Wildcats as they limited the Big Green to just .054 and .041 hitting.

In addition to Barnas, Blouin and Compton, sophomore setter Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) amassed a match-best 54 assists running the UNH offense. Sophomore Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) finished just one kill shy of a double-double by registering 14 digs and nine kills, while sophomore libero Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) posted a season-high 30 defensive digs.

The Wildcats hit at a .220 mark compared to just .124 from the Big Green UNH as a team posted 21 kills in Game 1, 16 in Game 2, 11 in Game 3 and 17 in the final game. The 65 kills mark the second highest kill total during the 2007 campaign.

The Wildcats open America East play this weekend on the road at Binghamton (Friday, 7 p.m.) and UMBC (Sunday, 1 p.m.). UNH’s next home game is on Monday, October 8 against America East foe Maine.
