ALBANY, N.Y. – Trailing 7-3 in the fifth and final game, the University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team closed out the match on an 12-3 run to capture the 3-2 win over Albany on Friday night at University Gym. The Wildcats, who snap a two-game slide, improve to 12-6 overall, 1-2 in America East. Albany, the reigning champion in America East, falls to 12-6 overall as it is handed its first conference loss moving to 2-1 in league play. The match scores were 25-30, 30-24, 26-30, 30-26 and 15-10.
Sophomore Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) registered a double-double with a match-high 28 kills and 22 defensive digs to lead four Wildcats in double figures. Seniors Toni Barnas (Cary, Ill.), Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta) and Jessica Compton (Woodridge, Ill.) had 12, 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Sophomore Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) had a match-high 61 assists, while Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) had a match-best 28 defensive digs.
UNH hit at a .317 clip in Game 1 and had 16 kills in that game. The Wildcats had 15 kills in Game 2, 17 in Games 3 and 4 and nine in the fifth and deciding game.
The Wildcats continue America East play as they play host to Maine on Monday, October 8. Match time is 7 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium. Tickets are available online at www.unhwildcats.com.
