ORONO, Maine – Sophomore Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) recorded 15 kills, and senior tri-captain Toni Barnas (Cary, Ill.) recorded 13, to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-27) sweep of the University of Maine on Saturday at Memorial Gym.

The Wildcats, who hit at a .325 clip compared to Maine’s .223, improve their record to 15-7, including 4-3 in America East, while the Black Bears fall to 2-18 overall, and 1-6 in the conference.

Sophomore Kate Uitti (Pickney, Mich.) helped quarterback the Wildcats to victory, tallying 40 assists and 12 digs, while fellow sophomore Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) led the team with 19 digs.

Senior Jessica Compton (Woodridge, Ill.), sophomore Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) and senior Jeanne Czipri (Aurora, Ill.) contributed nine, eight and seven kills, respectively.

Barnas hit at a .462 mark, while Bates hit at .303.

All three games stayed fairly close, with neither team taking control until the end when the Wildcats strung points together and began to pull away.

The Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. when they play host to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County at Lundholm Gymnasium.
