ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) registered a match-high 20 kills to lead three players in with double-figure kills, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team lost to America East foe the University at Albany, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at University Gym. The set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21. The Wildcats fall to 3-15 overall, 0-2 in league play. The Great Danes are now 9-8 overall, 2-0 in America East.
In the first set, the Great Danes jumped out to a 13-5 lead and extended that lead to 17-8. UNH would rally, but Albany held on for an eight-point win. The second set was back-and-forth early with UNH leading it 16-15. The Wildcats would score the next four points to build a 20-15 lead and went on to earn the four-point win. In the set, UNH had a match-best 17 kills and hit at a .308 percentage. Albany would bounce back and take the final two sets by identical 25-21 margins. In the third set, the Great Danes had 15 kills compared to just two attack errors for a .394 clip. In the fourth and final set Albany sprinted out to a 15-9 lead and never trailed in the set.
UNH returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 against America East foe Binghamton. Match time is 4 p.m. in Vestal, N.Y. The Wildcats return home on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they play host to league foe Hartford. Match time is 1 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium.
