VOLLEYBALL PLAYS HOST TO ARIZONA STATE, WYOMING, HARVARD AT SECOND-ANNUAL HOLLY YOUNG INVITATIONAL
DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire
volleyball team will play host to Wyoming, Harvard and Arizona
State in the 2nd Annual Holly Young Invitational on Friday and
Saturday, Sept. 18-19.
The action kicks off Friday night as Arizona States faces off
against Harvard at 4:30 p.m. and continues into the evening as New
Hampshire takes on the University of Wyoming at 7 p.m. The matches
continue Saturday as Wyoming faces Arizona State at 10 a.m.,
followed by the Wildcats and Harvard at 12:30 p.m. and Wyoming and
Harvard at 4:30 p.m. The final match of the weekend is UNH’s
annual “Pack the Arena” night. The Wildcats square off
against Pac-10 foe Arizona State at 7 p.m. UNH will attempt to
break the previous attendance record of 2,415, which was set
against another Pac-10 foe Stanford University on Sept. 6,
2005.
The Wildcats enter the tournament 3-7 overall, but are winners of
two of the last three matches. Senior Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton,
Calif.) leads UNH with 87 kills, an average of 2.64 kills per set.
Arizona State is currently 7-2 overall and are led by Sarah Reeves
who is averaging 4.04 kills and 2.11 digs per set. Wyoming is 6-3
entering the week, led by Barbara Lasic who is averaging 10.97
assists and 1.19 digs per set. As for Harvard, they enter the
weekend 2-5 and are led by Anne Carroll Ingersoll who is averaging
a team leading 2.71 kills per set.
The Holly Young Invitational, which is a long-standing tradition
at UNH, was recently renamed to honor the memory of Holly Young.
January 2008, Young, a former member of the volleyball program,
lost her battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone
cancer.
