DURHAM, N.H. – Head Coach Jill Hirschinger of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team has announced a pair of early signings to the class of 2014. Kaja Schirmer (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Destiny Tolliver (Rochester, Mich.) have both signed a National Letter of Intent to UNH and will join the Wildcats in the fall.
“We are really excited to have Kaja and Destiny become a part of our volleyball family. They both come from excellent high school and club programs,” said Hirschinger. “Kaja and Destiny bring impressive volleyball credentials and also excellence in the classroom. They add size, ball control, and competitiveness.”
Schirmer, a 6-1
outside hitter, played for Head Coach Matt Glover at Pittsford
Sutherland High School over the past four years. Schirmer was an
All-League selection all four years, All-State and All-Greater
Rochester selections her junior year as well as a league most
valuable player her senior year. Kaja also played her club
volleyball for Volley FX under head coach Rob Werkmeister.
“Kaja is the whole package. She is a great all-around player. Her work ethic combined with her competitive edge and athletic talents are going to add a strong presence to our team next year.”
Tolliver, a 6-1 right side, played for Notre Dame Preparatory School. Tolliver was a third Team All-State selection in 2007, and second Team All-State selection in 2008. Destiny played her club volleyball for Legacy Volleyball under Jen Nighswander. Current Wildcats Kate Uitti and Jansan Falcusan also played for Nightswander
“Destiny’s size and athleticism will add a new dimension to our offense,” said Hirschinger. “Her passion for the game, heavy arm swing and love of competition will immediately raise the level of play in our gym.”
“We feel very fortunate that these two players have chosen to attend the University of New Hampshire and look forward to the impact they will have on our program.”
Tolliver should help boast a UNH volleyball team that returns a
depth of talent from its 2009 squad. The Wildcats return to action
when they wrap up the regular season with a pair of home contests
at Lundholm Gymnasium, Saturday, Nov. 14 versus Stony Brook and
Sunday, Nov. 15 against UMBC. Both matches start at 1 p.m.
