DURHAM, N.H. --  Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) registered a team-high seven kills, 17 receptions and two blocks, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team dropped its home opener 3-0 to non-conference foe Northeastern University on Tuesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19.

In addition to Laquerre, Taylor Dressing (Gillette, N.J.) posted six kills, while setter Sara Heldman (Greenwood, Ind.) tallied five kills, seven digs and a match-high 22 assists. Defensively, Jayde Huxtable (St. Charles, Ill.) led the way with 10 digs.

In the first set, the Huskies slowly built a five-point lead at 10-5. The Wildcats cut it to two at 12-10 before Northeastern rattled off seven-straight points to increase its lead to 19-10 and went on to earn a 25-15 win. In the second set, NU slowly established a 10-5 lead, but once again UNH cut the lead to 12-10. The 'Cats would tie it up for the first time at 16-16. However, the Huskies ended the set with a 9-1 run that included the final seven points of the set. Northeastern hit at a .438 clip for the set with a match-high 18 kills. In the third and final set, NU held a small lead throughout the early going. The Huskies held a 17-16 advantage midway through before closing out the set and match with an 8-2 run.

UNH returns to action when it travels to URI's Art Carmichael Invitation Sept. 10-11. The Wildcats open with Marist (3 p.m.) and the host Rhode Island Rams (7 p.m.) Friday and will play Maryland-Eastern Shore Saturday (12 p.m.). The 'Cats return home to host the Holly Young Invitational tournament on Sept. 17-18. New Hampshire will entertain Dartmouth, Sacred Heart and Rutgers over the weekend.
