Volleyball Set to Host Holly Young Invitational, 'Pack the Arena' Event
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team will play host to Indiana State, Fairfield and Connecticut in the Holly Young Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10. The action begins on Friday when Fairfield meets UConn at 4:30 p.m. The annual tournament is a long-standing tradition at UNH and is named after Holly Young, a former member of the Wildcat volleyball team who in 2008 lost her battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
The Wildcats will play Indiana State at 7 p.m. Friday night, Fairfield at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and will wrap up tournament play at 7 p.m. when they take on UConn for UNH's "Pack the Arena" night. In that match, UNH will look to beat their 2,485-attendance record in a contest that features some of the best players from the region, including two-time New Hampshire Player of the Year Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.), Massachusetts Player of the Year and AVCA High School All-American Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.), and high school three-sport standout Jessie Schnepp (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
UNH will also welcome back two-time New Hampshire Player of the Year and former Oyster River standout, Brianna Datti, who returns to Durham as a freshman defensive specialist for the Huskies.
Admission is free throughout the tournament, while the first 200 fans at the "Pack the Arena" night will receive a free water bottle.
