DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.) notched 12 kills apiece and sophomore Taylor Dunklau (Mukwonago, Wis.) posted a double-double as the University of New Hampshire volleyball team downed Hartford, 3-0, Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.
New Hampshire improves to 15-12 overall and 7-4 in America East play, while Hartford dips to 8-19 on the season and 2-9 in conference action. Set scores in the match were 25-22, 25-8 and 25-16.
Thatcher hit at a .450 clip with just three attack errors, while Dunklau registered 30 assists and 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Sophomore Sam Henke (Millersville, Md.) and senior Jessie Schnepp (East Longmeadow, Mass.) racked up 19 and 14 digs, respectively. As a team, the Wildcats posted a .269 hitting percentage and held Hartford to a .098 clip.
The teams were knotted up at 5-5 to kick off the opening set before UNH rattled off a 9-2 stretch to move out in front, 14-7. New Hampshire maintained its seven-point advantage at 16-9, but the Hawks rallied back with an eventual 8-0 run to take the lead at 22-21. Nevertheless, the Wildcats ended with four unanswered points to claim the set, 25-22.
New Hampshire dominated the second set, starting with a 14-3 lead to open the stanza. The Wildcats closed it out with five straight to seal the victory, 25-8, and racked up 13 kills with a .400 hitting percentage in the frame.
The teams were close to open the third set, but after five lead changes the Wildcats used a 5-1 run to take the lead at 13-10. The Hawks closed the gap to two at 13-11, but could not get closer as the home side ended with a 14-3 stretch for the 25-16 victory to seal the sweep.
The Wildcats return to action for the regular season finale and senior day on Sunday, Nov. 11 when they play host to Albany at 1 p.m.
