UNH women's cross country places third at conference race

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Catherine Parker (Westford, Mass.) was the fifth runner to cross the finish line at the 2005 America East Championship and led the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team to third place in the event, which was held Saturday at Binghamton University.

UNH, with 89 points, placed behind Boston University (40 points) and Stony Brook (56). The Wildcats placed ahead of Binghamton (103), Vermont (137), Albany (142), Maine (153), UMBC (192) and Hartford (264) in the nine-team race.

Parker, who received America East All-Conference Team recognition for her effort, finished the 5K course in 18 minutes, 45.1 seconds to earn fifth place. Leonora Joy of Stony Brook won the individual title in a time of 18:04.7.

Emily Mareb (Great Barrington, Mass.) was the second Wildcat to cross the finish line and placed 13th with a time of 19:07.1 and Jen Busse (Brookline, N.H.) took 19th place in 19:25.3. Chelsea Corr (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was timed in 19:50.1 for 25th place and Ashley Vance (Manchester, N.H.) was close behind in 28th place with a time of 20:05.9 to close the UNH scoring.

Heather Carmichael (Windsor, Vt.) and Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) completed the Wildcat varsity squad in 33rd and 37th place, respectively in times of 20:19.8 and 20:37.1.
