ORONO, Maine  -- Kimberly Povec (Holland Patent, N.Y.) placed second overall and was the first of seven consecutive Wildcat runners to cross the finish line to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team to a 20-51 victory against host University of Maine in Friday afternoon’s dual meet.
    Povec completed the course in a time of 18 minutes, 28 seconds to finish 14 seconds behind first-place finisher Jessica Belliveau of Maine. Povec was followed closely by Ashley Vance (Manchester, N.H.), whose time of 18:35 was third best on the day.
    The next four Wildcats finished within five seconds and secured UNH’s victory. Rebecca Haley (Dover, N.H.) was timed in 19:02 to claim fourth place and was followed by teammates Tricia Rozeboom (South Haven, Mich.; 19:03), Nicole Whalen (Warwick, N.Y. 19:05) and Amanda Schweitzer (Merrimack, N.H; 19:07).
    Emily Osgood (Wellsboro, Pa.) completed the run of seven consecutive UNH finishers in eighth place at 19:19. Melissa Gunther (Manchester, N.H.) claimed 10th place with a clocking of 19:33 to give the ‘Cats eight of the top 10 finishers.
    New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 30 for the Murray Keatinge Invitational, which is at the University of Maine.
