DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire junior harrier Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.) is headed to her first NCAA National Championships after placing fourth overall at the prestigious Northeast Regional on Saturday held at Van Cortland Park in New York.
Parker cruised through the course in an impressive time of 21 minutes, eight seconds to lead the Wildcats to an 11th place finish, beating out 25 other teams. As a result of Parker’s performance, she became the fourth national qualifier for UNH since the 1996 season. Wildcat harrier Jeremy Howard qualified in 1996, while Kevin Horgan achieved the honor during the 1999 season. New Hampshire native Dan Hocking was the most recent to qualify in 2002 before Parker crossed the line on Saturday.
Parker, who also recently captured first place at the America East Championships, returns to action on Monday (Nov. 20) as she gears up for NCAA’s at Indiana State in Terra Haute Indiana. The race is scheduled to start at 12:00 noon.
