CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Tuesday that senior Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team was named America East Cross Country Women’s Performer of the Week for the week ending Oct. 15. This marks the second time Parker has garnered the award this season.

Parker’s eighth-place showing in the 278-runner field at the Penn State Nationals helped the Wildcats finish 13th in the 25-team field Oct. 12. Racing against some of the top runners and schools in the country, including then 17th-ranked Duke, No. 19 West Virginia and No. 26 Penn State, Parker finished the 6K course in a time of 21 minutes, 22 seconds, only nine seconds behind sixth-place finisher Bridget Franek of Penn State.

Parker was America East Performer of the Week and ECAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1, when her third-place finish Sept. 29 helped the Wildcats to a third-place showing at the nine-team Murray Keatinge Invitational at the University of Maine. Parker completed the 5K course in a time of 17:19.30, just four seconds behind the runner up.

Parker and the Wildcats, who are ranked ninth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division I Women's Cross Country Northeast Regional rankings, return to action Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Central Connecticut Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park.
