NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Freshmen Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) and Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.) finished in first and second place, respectively, to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team to an overall first-place finish Saturday at the nine-team Central Connecticut State Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park.

Jesseman finished the two-mile race in a time of 11 minutes, 31 seconds, while Fitzpatrick crossed the finish line just one second later at 11:32.

he Wildcats, who placed four runners in the top six, and five in the top 10, scored 24 points to beat out runner-up University of Connecticut (64). In the 88-runner field, the ‘Cats had no runner finish worse than 42nd.

Freshman Mackenzie Ferreira (Westerly, R.I.) finished in 11:38 to place fifth, beating out senior captain Becky Haley (Dover, N.H.) who finished one second later at 11:39.

Junior Amanda Chapman (Groton, Conn.) rounded out the top 10 for the Wildcats, placing 10th in a time of 11:50.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Oct. 27 when they travel to Stony Brook University for the America East Championships.
