BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.) and sophomore Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) finished inside the top 10 to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the America East championships Saturday afternoon at Oregon Ridge Park on the campus of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
The Wildcats’ 74 points trailed Stony Brook University (29) and Boston University (41), but beat out the University of Vermont (131), the University at Albany (136), Binghamton University (143), the University of Maine (163), UMBC (192), and the University of Hartford (283).
Povec finished seventh in a time of 17 minutes, 46.8 seconds, while Jesseman placed 10th in 18:00.5. Both runners were named to the America East All-Conference Team for finishing inside the top 10.
Senior Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.), junior Courtney Hamer (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.) finished in the top 20 of the 76-runner field at 18th, 19th and 20th, respectively. Morrissey crossed the finish line at 18:27.7, Hamer came across at 18:29.3 and Fitzpatrick finished the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:31.8.
Freshman Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J.) placed 35th in a time of 18:58.9, while junior Emily Osgood (Wellsboro, Pa.) finished 37th in 19:04.1.
The Wildcats return to action Nov. 15 at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Van Cortland Park.
