ORONO, MAINE. – Junior Cayla Pellegrini (Derry, N.H.) finished third overall to pace the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team past Maine in a dual meet Friday afternoon at the Maine Cross Country Course.
New Hampshire finished with 26 points, placing ahead of Maine (31).
Pellegrini, who raced for the first time this season, completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18:49.8.
Freshman McKenzie Haney (Penacook, N.H.) was not far behind in the fourth spot with a time of 18:50.7, while junior Julia Credendino (Islip, N.Y.) and senior Lucy Garfield (Hanover, N.H.) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in times of 18:51.6 and 18:58.1. Haney has raced in all three events so far in her rookie campaign, including an 11th-place performance in the season-opener against Providence.
Sophomore Gabby Mancuso (New Paltz, N.Y.) claimed eighth place, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:11.8.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 28 when they take part in the Paul Short Invitational on the campus of Lehigh University.
