Maguire Competes at Cross Country Nationals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team placed 112th at the 253-runner NCAA National Championship meet Saturday afternoon at Sawyer State Park.
Maguire put the finishing touch on an outstanding season by completing the 6-kilometer course in a time of 20:52.5. Betsey Saina of Iowa State captured first-place in a time of 19:27.9, while Oregon won the meet with 114 total points.
Maguire earned her spot in the championship field after receiving one of four individual regional bids for the national meet when she placed 16th overall at the NCAA Northeast Regional. Maguire, who earned All-Region honors for the second straight year, completed the 6-kilometer course in a time of 20:22.5.
Two weeks earlier, she claimed the 5-kilometer America East individual title after finishing the UNH College Woods course in a time of 16:33.48, just two seconds shy of the course record.
Maguire also has an accomplished career on the track as she most recently qualified for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary in the 10,000 meters for the second straight season. She also captured her second New England title last spring with a first-place finish in the 1,500 meters. The two-time America East track champion was named the 2009 Outdoor Rookie of the Meet after a first-place finish in the 10,000 meters.
