Women’s Cross Country Finishes Ninth Overall at NCAA Regionals
BRONX, N.Y. – Senior co-captain Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) placed 37th overall of 254 runners as the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team placed ninth overall at the Northeast Regional Meet Friday afternoon held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
The Wildcats recorded 250 points while Providence College notched 44 to capture the meet. A total of 37 teams from all over New England and New York competed in the event, bringing some of the nation's top runners and teams to the event.
Twombly finished with a time of 21:12.5 on the 6K course to lead all UNH runners. Freshman Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) finished three spots behind her in 40th as she completed the course with a time of 21:16.3 while junior Chelsey Serrano (Manchester, N.H.) in 47th with a result of 21:11.8. Senior co-captain Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) crossed the plane with a time of 21:28.9.
Classmate Cayla Pellegrini (Derry, N.H.) finished 77th with a time 21:59.8 while Samantha Blais (Lyndenborough, N.H.) came in with at 22:10.2. Freshman Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) rounded out the Wildcat runners as she finished 104th with a time of 22:24.3.
